Beaded knitted amulet pouch

27 September 2006

Was as usual reading up on blogs to kill time and as usual, there would be a few selected blogs (not my friends) of which I frequently read up on.

I was reading Wendy Knits when I saw this picture of a beaded knitted amulet pouch and fell so in love with it. there were no patterns given for the design and thus I had no idea how I could've gone about knitting it.

This is the site of whom the pattern truly belongs to.

The Rainey Sisters

so i decided to yahoo it.

and i found a pattern! it doesnt seem to be identical to the one i saw on wendy knits though bearing striking resemblance.

nonetheless after readin through the knit pattern and deems it easy enough a project for me to start on, i starting making preparations for my knitting project.

two more months till christmas but with the amount of pouches i intend to make for those who matters to me... it's not too late to start.

oh yea, before I start, let me share this website i chanced upon. it's damn gd cos it provides VIDEO guide!

Knitting Help

so next time if you're confused over how to do a particular knit/stitch/etc and can't understand what the heck a book with illustrations is tryin to tell u, you can check up from here.

Step 1

Getting the materials.

Went to "Golden Dragon" shop in chinatown and was lookin for a size #0000 needle.
auntie looked at me with a question mark.
ok lah sorry lah auntie, i get from internet they say #0000 ma!
i even surfed the site with my hp and auntie was like "Wah now so hightech save pattern into handphone"

-____-"

then auntie point point abit and left me alone to venture around the store.

wah lau. in the end no help at all can.

nvm at least i know i not suppose to stupidily buy wool. shld be yarn. so i bought special knitting yarn. colours available very limited. so i bo bian chose maroon cos that's the closest colour i can get to match my maroon beads. bleh.

Step 2

Here I realised that this was the most idiotic TEDIOUS step of all.
The beading.

I bought two batches of beads to begin with and was using a tiny thread to thread through all my beads. spent hours doing this. and i have to finish all the beads before i start knitting.

*after notes: after finishing the project then i realised there's such thing called a BEADING NEEDLE. WTF? lol it's a very springy wire made to look like a needle specifically meant for beading. what i spent HOURS AND HOURS on was completed in just one hour after i started using the beading needle for my second project. wah lau!!!!! but anyway, that's wad trial and error is all about.

Step 3

Knit away!

and so i started following the pattern i printed out and knitted away.

half a day later...

one day later...

the back part's not done. hurhur.

notice the clam shell like bottom? thought it was quite cool.

i realised this pattern created a much bigger pouch than what was on shown on The Rainey Sisters.

At that point in time when I checked, there wasn't any free patterns offered for knitting the beaded knitted amulet pouch.

*after notes: after i'm done with my first pouch, the Rainey sisters provided it's patterns
(-__-")

Step 4 and 5

Here with the finishing I have to stitch the pouch together and flip it rightside out and do up a strap for it as well as sewing on a charm for it to keep the flap down.

VOILA!

The pouch is abit bulky lah. not so cute. but my colleague liked it alot so i gave it to her. =D

Yes! and here's the final piece!
A better shot of it, that is. hurhur

a colleague from another dept bought this hard gay kipatsu.

$50 can!? so expensive... but i heard it's limited edition lah.
when you stab "hard gay" with the pirate swords, he'll make noises that's abit hair raising.

sano was actually nuts enough to buy it!

"HOOOOOO!"

saw this on my colleague's table.
